Busy, tired, meme

November 23, 2010

Recap tomorrow.

Day 13 – Favorite childhood book OR current favorite YA book (or both!)

I read a LOT of books as a kid.  I went through an Anne of Green Gables phase, an Alice in Wonderland phase, a mythology phase, a fairytale phase…which one would you like me to talk about?  Like now, I didn’t have a favorite.  Current favorite YA book is Speak, followed by The Hunger Games, probably followed by Sarah Dessen’s Just Listen, which I have but I’m having problems getting to it as a reread because it’s triggery, and I’m easily triggered lately.

Day 14 – Favorite character in a book (of any sex or gender)

I love Momo.  But we talked about Tramps Like Us before.  I REALLY liked the TV Momo.  I fell in love with Owen from Just Listen.  It used to be Izzy from Izzy, Willy-Nilly, or really, any of a zillion Voigt characters–oops, exaggeration.  Heck, at one point it was Damon from The Vampire Diaries, the character who I think is actually the weakest at this point, in a series full of poorly-sketched characters.

Day 15 – Your “comfort” book

Jennifer Crusie’s Bet Me, for a few years now.

Day 16 – Favorite poem or collection of poetry

Um…

We real cool. We
Left school. We

Lurk late. We
Strike straight. We

Sing sin. We
Thin gin. We

Jazz June. We
Die soon.

or

From my mother’s sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

I’m not really a poetry person, so when I do like a poem, it’s usually one that plays with both words and form and all sorts of things.  The more it plays, the more I like it, until it’s doing it for the sake of just doing it.  There are some ee cummings poems I like, and some I don’t.
